1.  You should arrive with a lesson plan on stalls and spins.  It should be what
you will bring to your CFI check ride.  How in depth should it be?  It should be the
lesson you will teach student pilots on spins and spin recovery.   In addition, I will
fill in any blanks I see in your class.  I include a copy of my spin Power Point
presentation.  Plan on about 3-4 hours of ground, including the aircraft pre-flight
and bail out brief.

2.  Some good sources of information on spins:

3.  I teach the PARE© spin recovery method as developed by Rich Stowell.

4.  The flying itself will last about 1.5-2.0 hours.  The flying portion is normally
done in several hops due to weight and pilot fatigue issues.  The primary aircraft
is the American Champion
8KCAB Super Decathlon.  Some of the training can
also be done in a Cessna 172.

5.  Maneuvers covered:
  • "Dutch Rolls"
  • Slow flight
  • Stalls
  • Demonstration of "reverse command" while in a "deep" stall
  • One turn spins, recovery.
  • Demonstration of pro-spin inputs and the effect on the spin (power, aileron,
    elevator).
  • Different Spin scenarios  (eg. go-around stall/spin, skidding turn stall/spin,
180 turn after engine failure stall/spin).
  • Optional- Introduction to rolls.  Demonstration of critical angle of attack at
nose down pitch angles (bottom of a loop).
